The Ministry of Livestock Development is the apex organization responsible for the implementation of policies, plans, programmes and the relevant statutory provisions for the management and development of the livestock sector.

 

Increasing the growth and productivity of the livestock sector towards a great self-reliance in livestock produce in the country is the broad development goal.

 Creation of rural employment, livelihood improvement of rural communities, poverty reduction and nutrition enhancement of vulnerable groups through livestock production activities are the other objectives of livestock development.

 Developing the dairy sub-sector is the priority activity in the medium term development agenda of the Ministry.
